01.24.13 - Sadiki LIVE in the studio

LISTEN TO THE ARCHIVE AT JAMAICAROCK.COM

The multi-talented singer and producer Sadiki was in town from Jamaica and stopped by the studio to talk about his latest album release "Jah Is The Only King". We were able to preview the whole wicked album on air as well as talk to him about the back story and production of the songs. Plus, we were lucky enough to have him sing one of his big tunes LIVE (see video). Check the archive, pick up the album HERE and come to the album release party at Downtown Top Ranking!

01.17.13 - Martin Luther King, Jr. Tribute

LISTEN TO THE ARCHIVE AT JAMAICAROCK.COM

This show is a tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in this the week of both his birthday (January 15th) and Martin Luther King Day. Dr. King was assassinated in 1968 and MLK day was actually not an official holiday until 18 years later, 1986. In remembrance of him, I wanted to take this opportunity to play songs that talked about love, unity and equality.

01.03.13 - Lloyd Charmers Tribute

LISTEN TO THE ARCHIVE AT JAMAICAROCK.COM

Lloyd Charmers, born Lloyd Tyrell, sadly passed away Thursday, December 27th 2012 in London. He was born in Trenchtown, Jamaica. His professional career began in 1962, when he performed as The Charmers with Roy Willis on Vere Johns' Talent Hour, starting a recording career soon after. When The Charmers split, he joined Slim Smith and Martin Jimmy Riley in The Uniques making big tunes such as "Watch This Sound". Charmers subsequently moved on to a solo career, releasing two albums in 1970, and also recording x-rated tracks such as "Birth Control", and the album Censored, these more risqué outings appearing under his real name or as 'Lloydie & The Lowbites'.
He was also briefly a member of The Messengers, a short-lived supergroup also featuring Ken Boothe, B. B. Seaton and Busty Brown.
He set up his own 'Splash' record label in the early 1970s, and moved into production. Productions by him were notable for their sophisticated arrangements. With hissession band, The Now Generation, he produced artists such as Ken Boothe (including some of Boothe's most successful solo releases of the period, including his cover of David Gates' "Everything I Own"), B. B. Seaton, The Gaylads, and Lloyd Parks.
He later relocated to the UK where he continued to record and produce in a variety of styles, from Lovers Rock to Disco. (via wikipedia for the most part)
