04.04.13 - London's Mistah Brown guest selects

LISTEN TO THE ARCHIVE AT JAMAICAROCK.COM

credit: Tim Schnetgoeke

Born of Antiguan parents and raised in London's East End, Mistah Brown is genuinely passionate about playing the music he loves, whether in an intimate club setting or on the scale of the Notting Hill Carnival where the Tighten Up Crew have been part of the Gladdy Wax Sound System Road Show for over a decade. Now in it's 14th year, London's Tighten Up party remains one of the most respected Reggae nights in the world with an international roster of the finest DJs dropping by to spin tunes or take in the vibes when they're in the UK. Mistah Brown remains modest about the achievements and always gives a nod to the musicians and producers who created the music that first inspired him.
Queen Majesty starts out the show with a set dedicated to the late great Marvin Gaye, on this the week of both his birth and passing. The second hour is expertly handled by Mistah Brown, who brought along 45s you wish you had in your collection such as some killer London cuts and ond ones like baby Junior Reid's first tune. Nuff Respect! Big up Tim P., Champion and the whole UK massive! Check the archive.

03.28.13 - Sugar, Spice, everything Nice

LISTEN TO THE ARCHIVE AT JAMAICAROCK.COM

For this last Thursday of Women's History Month, Queen Majesty starts out the show with songs dedicated to the feminine gender - both sweet and bittersweet. The second hour is dedicated to more songs by female artists. Nuff respect to sisters doing it for themselves and and to all women who make other women proud.

LISTEN TO THE ARCHIVE AT JAMAICAROCK.COM

This week we had writer and Jamaican music aficionado, Anicée Gaddis live in the studio with us. We got to talk to her about her latest project with Big magazine - the Big Jamaica issue (and party at Free Candy), as well as some other big projects like writing for Victory Journal and the beautiful art book she did with Alessandro Simonetti called Small Kings about the Passa Passa dance in Kingston. Queen Majesty plays another all-female artist set. Nuff respect!
