03.06.14 - DJ Magrão from São Paolo LIVE in the Studio

LISTEN TO THE ARCHIVE AT JAMAICAROCK.COM

DJ Magrão

I usually save March strictly for the ladies but our friend DJ Magrão was in town and I was so happy to have him on the show. I started out with a set of songs that all had female names and then Magrão took over the second hour with some KILLER 90s tunes and went back in time from that. All vinyl. Check the archive above.

LISTEN TO THE ARCHIVE AT JAMAICAROCK.COM

This is the second all-cover songs show that I have done on Jamaica Rock and I tried to pick completely different tunes from the one I did in November of 2012. I love reggae and I love reggae cover songs and I hope you enjoyed the show.

09.26.13 - Top Cat of Jah Fingers Sound Selections

LISTEN TO THE ARCHIVE AT JAMAICAROCK.COM

The archive starts out a couple minutes late this week, as I was stuck on the train and ran late for the first time in 8 years! Thanks to Infinite Eargasm for holding it down. I brought a soulful kind of selection in honor of our good friend and reggae aficionado Top Cat of Jah Fingers Sound. You can catch his monthly party Reggae Got Soul every last Sunday of the month at East River Bar in Brooklyn. He brought a suitcase of some of his favorite vinyl and a whole lot of soul to his selections in the second hour. Check the archive.

06.06.13 - Black Roots, Sugar Minott, Nitty Gritty, Junior Reid

LISTEN TO THE ARCHIVE AT JAMAICAROCK.COM

Deadly Dragon Sound had recently painstakingly reissued Nitty Gritty's "Every Man A Seller" on Sugar Minott's Black Roots label. I took this opportunity to showcase some more killer tunes on this label, more tunes by Nitty Gritty and the prolific Sugar Minott as well as big tunes off of his other Youth Promotion label. I then found out that it was Junior Reid's Earthstrong and he fit in perfectly with this set. Some of my favorite songs by Reid were also produced by Sugar Minott and all three of these artists often ran the same riddim with King Jammy. Included also are a couple of Junior Reid's own productions. All respect. Check the playlist and the archive.

LISTEN TO THE ARCHIVE AT JAMAICAROCK.COM

This week we had writer and Jamaican music aficionado, Anicée Gaddis live in the studio with us. We got to talk to her about her latest project with Big magazine - the Big Jamaica issue (and party at Free Candy), as well as some other big projects like writing for Victory Journal and the beautiful art book she did with Alessandro Simonetti called Small Kings about the Passa Passa dance in Kingston. Queen Majesty plays another all-female artist set. Nuff respect!
