06.20.13 - Theme From A Summer Place

LISTEN TO THE ARCHIVE AT JAMAICAROCK.COM

Augustus Pablo

This show was inspired by the Summer Solstice as well as the Earthstrongs of both Ernest Ranglin and Augustus Pablo. I tried to focus on some uplifting sunshine-filled tunes as well as some other scorchers, including ones by Ranglin and Pablo. Check the archive, hope it makes you feel good all over.

06.13.13 - The Wild Wild West Indies

LISTEN TO THE ARCHIVE AT JAMAICAROCK.COM

I've been wanting to do a show like this for a while. There are just too many killer (no pun intended) reggae tracks that pay homage to the Wild West and Spaghetti Westerns. I start off the show with tunes that are a bit more straightforward but then the second hour is mostly dedicated to artists like Lone Ranger, Josey Wales, Clint Eastwood, Super Cat (the Wild Apache) and Terry Ganzie (The Outlaw). Check the archive, I hope you enjoy.

06.06.13 - Black Roots, Sugar Minott, Nitty Gritty, Junior Reid

LISTEN TO THE ARCHIVE AT JAMAICAROCK.COM

Deadly Dragon Sound had recently painstakingly reissued Nitty Gritty's "Every Man A Seller" on Sugar Minott's Black Roots label. I took this opportunity to showcase some more killer tunes on this label, more tunes by Nitty Gritty and the prolific Sugar Minott as well as big tunes off of his other Youth Promotion label. I then found out that it was Junior Reid's Earthstrong and he fit in perfectly with this set. Some of my favorite songs by Reid were also produced by Sugar Minott and all three of these artists often ran the same riddim with King Jammy. Included also are a couple of Junior Reid's own productions. All respect. Check the playlist and the archive.

05.30.13 - Andy Shaw of Metro Stylee in the studio

LISTEN TO THE ARCHIVE AT JAMAICAROCK.COM

Andy Shaw of Shaw Promotion aka Andy Stylee
The Specials

This was a very special show for me, one of my oldest and dearest friends Andy Shaw joined me in the studio to talk about his upcoming reunion with his band Metro Stylee. He introduced me to ska and reggae way back in the 90s as the third wave ska revival was happening. Like Andy I was enamored with the rude boys, skinheads, scooters, tattoos, the fashion, the scene and most of all the music. Through this third wave I traced my way back to the foundation of the music and continued to fall in love with reggae chronologically. In a way, I wish I had known about the insane dancehall happenings popping off at that time in New York but honestly I don't regret a thing.
