04.10.14 - DJ Sober LIVE in the studio

LISTEN TO THE ARCHIVE AT JAMAICAROCK.COM

The show starts out with one of my favorite Shinehead songs, as a birthday shout out to the artist. The first hour contains many more Shinehead tunes as well as Pinchers and some other 80s and 90s dancehall. In the second hour we are joined by my good friend, incredible illustrator and respected DJ, Sober from Dallas, Texas. He is just starting out a Northeast US Tour and came by the show with his first all-reggae set! Check the archive above and also DJSOBER.com

LISTEN TO THE ARCHIVE AT JAMAICAROCK.COM

DJ Fyahrama

This show starts out with some 60s and 70s songs by female artists and continues with a bunch of Studio One and more. In the second hour we are joined by the one and only DJ Lady Fyahrama who brought the dancehall fyah to the show. You can catch her every 1st and 3rd Friday night at the VIBES party at Madame X brought to you by one of the top reggae women in NYC Bintou aka Conscious NYC. Check the archive above!

02.20.14 - Wayne Smith Tribute

LISTEN TO THE ARCHIVE AT JAMAICAROCK.COM

We were so saddened by the sudden passing of our friend and reggae legend Wayne Smith this week. He was only 48 years old. A roots and dancehall pioneer and producer, I am honored that I got to meet him and do some Deadly Dragon parties with him. This show is inspired by him and I played almost every Wayne Smith song that I could find in my collection, I wish I had more. May he rest in peace and power.

01.02.14 - Sister Nancy, Super Cat & More

LISTEN TO THE ARCHIVE AT JAMAICAROCK.COM

Happy Earthstrong out to Sister Nancy, I start the show out with some classics of hers as well as some from her big brother Briggy. I also pulled a bunch of Super Cat for you since he had just performed in Jamaica for the first time in over 12 years at the 30th Anniversary of Sting International. Check out more on this over at LargeUp. The show is filled with many Super Cat gems as well as Ninja Man, Early B, Charlie Chaplin and more. Check the archive!

LISTEN TO THE ARCHIVE AT JAMAICAROCK.COM

Happy Holidays! It was a treat for me to be joined by Scratch Famous, one of my fellow Deadly Dragons as we dug up our favorite Christmas and holiday reggae tunes for you once again. All the best and many blessings to you and yours in this season and beyond. Thank you for your continued support!

10.03.13 - White Mice, early Dancehall and Rub A Dub

LISTEN TO THE ARCHIVE AT JAMAICAROCK.COM

I was in the mood to play some of my favorite 80s and 90s dancehall and Rub a Dub (maybe some very late 70s?) for you this show, beginning with the Shank I Sheck riddim. Then to celebrate the birthday of reggae artist White Mice, the set is inspired by and layered with some of his top tunes.

You can check the archive and playlist (that I try to type as thoroughly as I can while djing) above. Enjoy.

08.29.13 - Beres tunes & Cool Hand Luke from the UK

LISTEN TO THE ARCHIVE AT JAMAICAROCK.COM

A happy Earthstrong out to the soulful Beres Hammond! The show starts out with some of his older songs, such as ones with Zap Pow and moves into his classics and a few newer ones. The ladies love Beres. In the second hour I was joined by our friend Cool Hand Luke from North London and his wicked vinyl selections. He also joined us later that night at our weekly Downtown Top Ranking party where he kept the vibes strong and selected into for the deejays on the mic into the wee hours. Check the archive.

08.08.13 - Screechy Dan LIVE in the studio

LISTEN TO THE ARCHIVE AT JAMAICAROCK.COM

Always love and respect to our good friend and mega-talent Screechy Dan! Screechy is one of the pioneers of the 90s Dancehall scene, with huge hits like Pose Off, Skin Out and Booming in Your Jeep, to name a few. We've had him on the show before and you can see one of the videos HERE. He stopped by the studio this week with a new tune by Gyasi, as well as dropping a freestyle over the Skylarking riddim. We also had some wicked newer tunes (exclusives!) that we were able to share with the listeners so definitely check the archive above. Oh yeah, it was also his Earthstrong celebration that night, so Happy Birthday Screechy!

06.06.13 - Black Roots, Sugar Minott, Nitty Gritty, Junior Reid

LISTEN TO THE ARCHIVE AT JAMAICAROCK.COM

Deadly Dragon Sound had recently painstakingly reissued Nitty Gritty's "Every Man A Seller" on Sugar Minott's Black Roots label. I took this opportunity to showcase some more killer tunes on this label, more tunes by Nitty Gritty and the prolific Sugar Minott as well as big tunes off of his other Youth Promotion label. I then found out that it was Junior Reid's Earthstrong and he fit in perfectly with this set. Some of my favorite songs by Reid were also produced by Sugar Minott and all three of these artists often ran the same riddim with King Jammy. Included also are a couple of Junior Reid's own productions. All respect. Check the playlist and the archive.

11.15.12 - Sound Digital Sound

LISTEN TO THE ARCHIVE AT JAMAICAROCK.COM

I've always loved the Steely & Cleevie version of Rockfort Rock on the album above, as well as the sound boy killing tracks. The hardest one being "We A Di Don" by the dancehall godfather Johnny Osbourne. For this show I decided to start off with this very track and base the show around some of my favorite sound, digital and dancehall tunes. Check the playlist and archive above.

07.19.12 - Jamaica Rock Premiere

LISTEN TO THE ARCHIVE AT JAMAICAROCK.COM

Hey everyone, welcome to Jamaica Rock. Not only is it the name of the show on East Village Radio, it's the name of how I want to describe my choice in reggae music. I start the show off with a song from one of my favorite artists, Johnny Osbourne's "Rock With You". I was lucky to have him as a guest on Deadly Dragon Sounds, and hope to have him on this show as well. Thanks again to the Deadly Dragons for all of their hard work on the other show and all of the amazing guests that came through, you can still check out the archives and special guests HERE. I hope you continue rocking with me in this new show and time...
